Quarterly Brief
The Critical ThinkAR® Political Monitor is a quarterly analytical brief. It does not report on events. It reads them — against a fixed structural reference of how power is organised, contested, and reproduced in a specific political landscape.
The Refraction Framework™ Operational Filters work together with the seven lenses of the framework. The lenses produce the Anatomy of Power — a stable structural picture of how power is held, contested and reproduced in a specific political landscape. The filters are dynamic. Applied periodically, they read specific developments, events and actors against that anchor — giving you a rigorous snapshot of what is moving in the system and why.
Balance of Power reads the capacity to act and influence, and the constraints on that capacity, through three working parts: formal authority, effective influence, and dependency structure — applied to every actor in the system.
Elite-Citizen Alignment reads the constraint on, and the responsiveness of, elites to the agency of citizens. It asks whether the holders of formal political authority and economic power are constrained by and responsive to citizen agency — or whether they are overriding it.
